In February 2009 in honor of
Black History Month and
I Love to Read Month,
the Beautiful and Smart campaign launched Phase 2 of its literacy outreach with the
Beautiful and Smart Book Club Initiative.
The Beautiful and Smart Book Club features a different Christian author from
Voices of Thanksgiving: Christian Authors on Tour (
http://www.christianauthorsontour.com/). The book of the month for February and March 2009 is
Psalms of the Daughter (
http://www.psalmsofthedaughter.com/) written by Lynn Pinder, an African American writer who self-published her first collection of Christian-themed poems and short stories in 2008.

The Beautiful and Smart Book Club campaign is a quick and easy way for beauty and barber shops to build customer rapport and raise extra money. Participating beauty and/or barber shops earn a 28% ($3.91) commission for every copy of
Psalms of the Daughter sold to one of their book club members. Additionally, beauty and/or barber shops with at least five book club members will have their business name and contact information displayed on the
Beautiful and Smart website and on its other promotional materials.
